John 5:39-40 - BibleGateway Bear in mind that one of the points of instruction in this first part of our gospel is the action of the Son of God before His regular Galilean ministry. He bows to, as he explains, the sovereign will of God. How was this? Of course it is the revelation of Christ; but here He was simply revealing the sources of this indispensable new birth. Without it there is no divine understanding of Christ, or of His word, or of Scripture.
